Mexico | Yum Balam Reserve bans all plastic use

The Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) published the agreement by which the Summary of the Program of Management of the Protected Natural Area with Category of Protection Area of ​​Flora and Fauna Yum Balam, located in the Municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, Quintana Roo, bans plastic to preserve the ecosystem.


This agreement puts an end to the plans of building large hotels and golf courses on this protected area created by Presidential Decree on June 6, 1994. By prohibiting the use of plastic, polymers and other products that attempt against the Flora and Fauna. Even more: only 800 stilt buildings are allowed to be built and solid waste disposal sites will be constructed too.
