A California condor chick spotted in Zion National Park in Utah is believed to be the 1,000th chick born in the wild since a program to recover the endangered species was launched in 1992.

Zion biologists confirmed the chick in a nest on the cliffs just north of Angels Landing in Zion Canyon. They estimate the egg was laid mid-March and hatched beginning of May.
