Australia | Plan to boost NPs in New South Wales dropped for political reasons, sources say

A plan to transfer land from 15 "unproductive" state forests into national parks was dropped after a shock byelection result and the subsequent rise of Gladys Berejiklian as premier, sources say.

Details of the transfer, seen by Fairfax Media, show then environment minister Mark Speakman sought funding in 2016 to expand the national parks by almost 23,000 hectares.
