Plans for Cherokee plant gathering in Great Smoky Mountains NP out for public comment

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are a step close to regaining their historic rights to harvest the bitter spring green known as sochan in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.


The park is inviting public comment through Dec. 13 on an environmental assessment of a proposed plant gathering agreement with the Eastern Band.
