GOP architect of LWCF authorization rips Bernhardt for new restrictions on projects

A key architect of the Great American Outdoors Act wants to see the Interior Department take "corrective action" after the agency announced sweeping changes Friday to how Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars can be spent.

Sen. Steve Daines, a Montana Republican, will press Interior Secretary David Bernhardt to revise portions of a new order that places restrictions on LWCF funds, including granting veto power to state and local governments over new federal land purchases. The outdoors act provides full and permanent funding for LWCF.
