Former Navy site to be turned into new regional park in San Francisco Bay area
CONCORD — A decades-long effort to secure part of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station and transform it into a park hit a milestone this month when the East Bay Regional Park District board voted to accept the land from the U.S. Navy.
As a result of the board’s July 2 action, the park district now can take ownership of 2,216 acres of the defunct weapons base.
