England | Over agency objections, new segment of highway approved through Area of Natural Beauty

A new single and dual carriageway running through 1.6km of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was granted planning permission yesterday against the advice of Natural England and its conservation board.

Last year, Natural England strongly objected to Central Bedfordshire Council’s plans to build a 4.4km bypass linking the M1 and the A6 in support of the government’s planned Oxford-Cambridge growth arc.
