Dem senator wants closer scrutiny of O&G leases on USBLM lands near NPs

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet has introduced an amendment to a Senate appropriations package calling for increased scrutiny of proposed federal oil and gas lease sales within 15 miles of national parks, one of several public-lands measures amendments he is pushing for inclusion in the legislation.

Bennet, D-Colo., also introduced a second amendment incorporating the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act passed by a House committee in June and expected to be considered on the House floor this week. The Colorado Sun reported Tuesday that the White House was threatening a veto should the CORE Act come to pass.
