Bar Harbor, the main gateway to Acadia National Park in Maine, has been sued over local efforts to reduce cruise ship arrivals.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court last week was spurred by a citizen's petition seeking to limit daily cruise ship traffic to no more than 1,000 passengers and crew. The Town Council adopted the limit at its November 8 meeting.

Jan 2 (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service closed Dry Tortugas National Park off the Florida Keys for several days starting on Monday after 300 immigrants had arrived on the islands in recent days, overwhelming first responders.

"Like elsewhere in the Florida Keys, the park has recently seen an increase in people arriving by boat from Cuba and landing on the islands of Dry Tortugas National Park," the Park Service said in a statement announcing the closure to the public.

Buried at the base of the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust Memorial are the ashes and artifacts of Jews who were killed by the Nazis at three concentration camps. Engraved on the surrounding walls are the names of those who died during the Holocaust and the names of survivors who have died since.

Since it was dedicated on May 28, 1961, at Zion Memorial Park in Bedford Heights, Ohio, the monument has been a place to remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust. Now, with the $1.7 trillion government funding package signed into law on Thursday by President Biden, the monument has been recognized as a national memorial.
