Up to an additional seven parcels of land will be acquired and restored for the River Raisin National Battlefield Park and are key to preserving the battlefield, organizers said.
A partnership with The Carls Foundation, National Park Trust, City of Monroe and Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been formed to acquire the parcels near the park. Together, the groups will contribute more than $700,000 to purchase and restore the lands, Scott J. Bentley, park superintendent, announced Friday night during the grand opening of Wildlife of Michigan Art Exhibition at the park education center off N. Dixie Hwy.
